1 Now at that time, Judah went away from his brothers and became the friend of a man of Adullam named Hirah.

2 And there he saw the daughter of a certain man of Canaan named Shua, and took her as his wife.
2 Là, Juda vit la fille d'un Cananéen, nommé Schua; il la prit pour femme, et alla vers elle.
2 Chonaic Iúdá ansiúd iníon Chanánaigh darbh ainm Seúa; phós sé í agus luigh léi.
2 Y vió allí Judá la hija de un hombre Cananeo, el cual se llamaba Súa; y tomóla, y entró á ella:
2 Und Juda sah daselbst eines Kanaaniter-Mannes Tochter, der hieß Sua, und nahm sie. Und da er zu ihr einging,
3 And she gave birth to a son, and he gave him the name Er.
3 Elle devint enceinte, et enfanta un fils, qu'elle appela Er.
3 Ghabh sí gin agus rug sí mac agus thug sí Éar mar ainm air.
3 La cual concibió, y parió un hijo; y llamó su nombre Er.
3 ward sie schwanger und gebar einen Sohn, den hieß er Ger.
4 And again she gave birth to a son, and he gave him the name Onan.
4 Elle devint encore enceinte, et enfanta un fils, qu'elle appela Onan.

5 Then she had another son, to whom she gave the name Shelah; she was at Chezib when the birth took place.
5 Elle enfanta de nouveau un fils, qu'elle appela Schéla; Juda était à Czib quand elle l'enfanta.
5 Ghabh sí gin arís eile agus rug sí mac agus thug sí Séalá mar ainm air; nuair a rugadh eisean bhí sí i gCizíb.
5 Y volvió á concebir, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Sela. Y estaba en Chezib cuando lo parió.
5 Sie gebar abermals einen Sohn, den hieß sie Sela; und er war zu Chesib, da sie ihn gebar.
6 And Judah took a wife for his first son Er, and her name was Tamar.
6 Juda prit pour Er, son premier-né, une femme nommée Tamar.

6 Y Judá tomó mujer para su primogénito Er, la cual se llamaba Thamar.
6 Und Juda gab seinem ersten Sohn, Ger, ein Weib, die hieß Thamar.
7 Now Er, Judah's first son, did evil in the eyes of the Lord, so that he put him to death.
7 Er, premier-né de Juda, était méchant aux yeux de l'Éternel; et l'Éternel le fit mourir.
7 Ach Éar, céadghin Iudá, coirpeach olc a ba ea é i láthair an Tiarna, agus mharaigh an Tiarna é.
7 Y Er, el primogénito de Judá, fué malo á los ojos de Jehová, y quitóle Jehová la vida.
7 Aber Ger war böse vor dem HERRN; darum tötete ihn der HERR.
8 Then Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife and do what it is right for a husband's brother to do; make her your wife and get offspring for your brother.
8 Alors Juda dit à Onan: Va vers la femme de ton frère, prends-la, comme beau-frère, et suscite une postérité à ton frère.
8 Ansin dúirt Iúdá le hÓnán: “Gabh chugat bean do dhearthár agus déan mar is dual do dheartháir céile léi agus tóg clann do do dheartháir.”
8 Entonces Judá dijo á Onán: Entra á la mujer de tu hermano, y despósate con ella, y suscita simiente á tu hermano.
8 Da sprach Juda zu Onan: Gehe zu deines Bruders Weib und nimm sie zur Ehe, daß du deinem Bruder Samen erweckest.
9 But Onan, seeing that the offspring would not be his, went in to his brother's wife, but let his seed go on to the earth, so that he might not get offspring for his brother.
9 Onan, sachant que cette postérité ne serait pas à lui, se souillait à terre lorsqu'il allait vers la femme de son frère, afin de ne pas donner de postérité à son frère.
9 Ach bhí a fhios ag Ónán nach leis féin aon chlann a ghinfí; agus nuair a théadh sé isteach chun mná a dhearthár scaoileadh sé a shíol uaidh ar an talamh chun nach dtabharfadh sé sliocht dá dheartháir.
9 Y sabiendo Onán que la simiente no había de ser suya, sucedía que cuando entraba á la mujer de su hermano vertía en tierra, por no dar simiente á su hermano.
9 Aber da Onan wußte, daß der Same nicht sein eigen sein sollte, wenn er einging zu seines Bruders Weib, ließ er's auf die Erde fallen und verderbte es, auf daß er seinem Bruder nicht Samen gäbe.
10 And what he did was evil in the eyes of the Lord, so that he put him to death, like his brother.
10 Ce qu'il faisait déplut à l'Éternel, qui le fit aussi mourir.
10 Agus ba fhuath leis an Tiarna a ndearna Ónán agus mharaigh sé eisean mar an gcéanna.
10 Y desagradó en ojos de Jehová lo que hacía, y también quitó á él la vida.
10 Da gefiel dem HERRN übel, was er tat, und er tötete ihn auch.
11 Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Go back to your father's house and keep yourself as a widow till my son Shelah becomes a man: for he had in his mind the thought that death might come to him as it had come to his brothers. So Tamar went back to her father's house.
11 Alors Juda dit à Tamar, sa belle-fille: Demeure veuve dans la maison de ton père, jusqu'à ce que Schéla, mon fils, soit grand. Il parlait ainsi dans la crainte que Schéla ne mourût comme ses frères. Tamar s'en alla, et elle habita dans la maison de son père.

12 And after a time, Bath-shua, Judah's wife, came to her end; and after Judah was comforted for her loss, he went to Timnah, where they were cutting the wool of his sheep, and his friend Hirah of Adullam went with him.
12 Les jours s'écoulèrent, et la fille de Schua, femme de Juda, mourut. Lorsque Juda fut consolé, il monta à Thimna, vers ceux qui tondaient ses brebis, lui et son ami Hira, l'Adullamite.

13 Da ward der Thamar angesagt: Siehe, dein Schwiegervater geht hinauf gen Thimnath, seine Schafe zu scheren.
14 She took off her widow's clothing, and covering herself with her veil, she took her seat near Enaim on the road to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was now a man, but she had not been made his wife.
14 Alors elle ôta ses habits de veuve, elle se couvrit d'un voile et s'enveloppa, et elle s'assit à l'entrée d'Énaïm, sur le chemin de Thimna; car elle voyait que Schéla était devenu grand, et qu'elle ne lui était point donnée pour femme.
14 agus chuir sí uaithi a héide baintrí, chuir fial uimpi féin agus shuigh, agus í folaithe go maith, mar a scarann an bóthar go hÉanaím ón mbothar go Timneá. Bhí Séalá fásta faoin am sin, ach mar sin féin níor tugadh dó í mar bhean.
14 Entonces quitó ella de sobre sí los vestidos de su viudez, y cubrióse con un velo, y arrebozóse, y se puso á la puerta de las aguas que están junto al camino de Timnath; porque veía que había crecido Sela, y ella no era dada á él por mujer.
14 Da legte sie die Witwenkleider von sich, die sie trug, deckte sich mit einem Mantel und verhüllte sich und setzte sich vor das Tor von Enaim an dem Wege gen Thimnath; denn sie sah, daß Sela war groß geworden, und sie ward ihm nicht zum Weibe gegeben.
15 When Judah saw her he took her to be a loose woman of the town, because her face was covered.
15 Juda la vit, et la prit pour une prostituée, parce qu'elle avait couvert son visage.
15 Nuair a chonaic Iúdá í, shíl sé gur striapach í mar bhí a haghaidh folaithe aici.
15 Y vióla Judá, y túvola por ramera, porque había ella cubierto su rostro.

16 And turning to her by the roadside, he said to her, Let me come in to you; for he had no idea that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What will you give me as my price?
16 Il l'aborda sur le chemin, et dit: Laisse-moi aller vers toi. Car il ne connut pas que c'était sa belle-fille. Elle dit: Que me donneras-tu pour venir vers moi?
16 Ghabh sé suas chuici ar thaobh an bhóthair agus dúirt: “Téanam agus luigh liom.” Ní raibh a fhios aige gurbh í bean a mhic í. “Cad a thabharfaidh tú dom,” ar sí, “ar son céileachas a dhéanamh liom?”
16 Y apartóse del camino hacia ella, y díjole: Ea, pues, ahora entraré á ti; porque no sabía que era su nuera; y ella dijo: ¿Qué me has de dar, si entrares á mí?
16 Und er machte sich zu ihr am Wege und sprach: Laß mich doch zu dir kommen; denn er wußte nicht, daß es seine Schwiegertochter wäre. Sie antwortete: Was willst du mir geben, daß du zu mir kommst?
17 And he said, I will give you a young goat from the flock. And she said, What will you give me as a sign till you send it?
17 Il répondit: Je t'enverrai un chevreau de mon troupeau. Elle dit: Me donneras-tu un gage, jusqu'à ce que tu l'envoies?
17 “Cuirfidh mé meannán chugat ón tréad,” ar sé. “Tá go maith,” ar sí, “ar choinníoll go bhfágfaidh tú geall agam go dtí go gcuirfidh tú chugam é.”
17 El respondió: Yo te enviaré del ganado un cabrito de las cabras. Y ella dijo: Hasme de dar prenda hasta que lo envíes.
17 Er sprach: Ich will dir einen Ziegenbock von der Herde senden. Sie antwortete: So gib mir ein Pfand, bis daß du mir's sendest.
18 And he said, What would you have? And she said, Your ring and its cord and the stick in your hand. So he gave them to her and went in to her, and she became with child by him.
18 Il répondit: Quel gage te donnerai-je? Elle dit: Ton cachet, ton cordon, et le bâton que tu as à la main. Il les lui donna. Puis il alla vers elle; et elle devint enceinte de lui.
18 “Cén geall a fhágfaidh mé agat?” ar sé. “Do shéala, do chorda agus an bata atá i do ghlaic,” ar sí. Thug sé di iad, luigh léi, agus ghabh sí gin uaidh.
18 Entonces él dijo: ¿Qué prenda te daré? Ella respondió: Tu anillo, y tu manto, y tu bordón que tienes en tu mano. Y él se los dió, y entró á ella, la cual concibió de él.
18 Er sprach: Was willst du für ein Pfand, das ich dir gebe? Sie antwortete: Deinen Ring und deine Schnur und deinen Stab, den du in den Händen hast. Da gab er's ihr und kam zu ihr; und sie ward von ihm schwanger.
19 Then she got up and went away and took off her veil and put on her widow's clothing.
19 Elle se leva, et s'en alla; elle ôta son voile, et remit ses habits de veuve.
19 Ansin d'éirigh sí, d'imigh léi, bhain di an fial, agus chuir a héide baintrí uimpi arís.
19 Y levantóse, y fuése: y quitóse el velo de sobre sí, y vistióse las ropas de su viudez.
19 Und sie machte sich auf und ging hin und zog ihre Witwenkleider wieder an.
20 Then Judah sent his friend Hirah with the young goat, to get back the things which he had given as a sign to the woman: but she was not there.
20 Juda envoya le chevreau par son ami l'Adullamite, pour retirer le gage des mains de la femme. Mais il ne la trouva point.
20 Agus chuir Iúdá an meannán lena chara an tAdullámach chun an geall a fhuascailt ó láimh na mná; ach ní bhfuair sé í.
20 Y Judá envió el cabrito de las cabras por mano de su amigo el Adullamita, para que tomase la prenda de mano de la mujer; mas no la halló.
20 Juda aber sandte den Ziegenbock durch seinen Freund Adullam, daß er das Pfand wieder holte von dem Weibe; und er fand sie nicht.
21 And he put questions to the men of the place, saying, Where is the loose woman who was in Enaim by the wayside? And they said, There was no such woman there.
21 Il interrogea les gens du lieu, en disant: Où est cette prostituée qui se tenait à Énaïm, sur le chemin? Ils répondirent: Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée.
21 D'fhiafraigh sé de mhuintir na háite: “Cá bhfuil an striapach choisricthe a bhíodh ar thaobh an bhóthair ag Éanaím?” D'fhreagraíodar: “Ní raibh aon striapach ansiúd.”
21 Y preguntó á los hombres de aquel lugar, diciendo: ¿Dónde está la ramera de las aguas junto al camino? Y ellos le dijeron: No ha estado aquí ramera.
21 Da fragte er die Leute: Wo ist die Hure, die zu Enaim am Wege saß? Sie antworteten: Es ist keine Hure da gewesen.
22 So he went back to Judah, and said, I have not seen her, and the men of the place say that there is no such woman there.
22 Il retourna auprès de Juda, et dit: Je ne l'ai pas trouvée, et même les gens du lieu ont dit: Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée.
22 D'fhill sé ar Iúdá agus dúirt: “Ní bhfuair mé í; agus dúirt muintir na háite nach raibh aon striapach choisricthe ann.”
22 Entonces él se volvió á Judá, y dijo: No la he hallado; y también los hombres del lugar dijeron: Aquí no ha estado ramera.
22 Und er kam wieder zu Juda und sprach: Ich habe sie nicht gefunden; dazu sagen die Leute des Orts, es sei keine Hure da gewesen.
23 And Judah said, Let her keep the things, so that we may not be shamed; I sent the young goat, but you did not see the woman.
23 Juda dit: Qu'elle garde ce qu'elle a! Ne nous exposons pas au mépris. Voici, j'ai envoyé ce chevreau, et tu ne l'as pas trouvée.
23 “Bíodh aici mar sin,” arsa Iúdá, “chun nach ndéanfaí ceap magaidh dínn; chuireas an meannán seo chuici, ach níor éirigh leat í a fháil.”
23 Y Judá dijo: Tómeselo para sí, porque no seamos menospreciados: he aquí yo he enviado este cabrito, y tú no la hallaste.

24 Now about three months after this, word came to Judah that Tamar, his daughter-in-law, had been acting like a loose woman and was with child. And Judah said, Take her out and let her be burned.
24 Environ trois mois après, on vint dire à Juda: Tamar, ta belle-fille, s'est prostituée, et même la voilà enceinte à la suite de sa prostitution. Et Juda dit: Faites-la sortir, et qu'elle soit brûlée.
24 Timpeall ráithe ina dhiaidh sin dúradh le Iúdá: “Rinne do bhean mhic, Támár, striapachas; sea agus tá sí trom de bharr a striapachais.” Dúirt Iúdá: “Tugtar amach í agus loisctear í!”
24 Y acaeció que al cabo de unos tres meses fué dado aviso á Judá, diciendo: Thamar tu nuera ha fornicado, y aun cierto está preñada de las fornicaciones. Y Judá dijo: Sacadla, y sea quemada.
24 Über drei Monate ward Juda angesagt: Deine Schwiegertochter Thamar hat gehurt; dazu siehe, ist sie von der Hurerei schwanger geworden. Juda spricht: Bringt sie hervor, daß sie verbrannt werde.
25 And while she was being taken out, she sent word to her father-in-law, saying, The man whose property these things are, is the father of my child: say then, whose are this ring and this cord and this stick?
25 Comme on l'amenait dehors, elle fit dire à son beau-père: C'est de l'homme à qui ces choses appartiennent que je suis enceinte; reconnais, je te prie, à qui sont ce cachet, ces cordons et ce bâton.
25 Nuair a bhí sí á breith amach, chuir sí scéala chun athair a céile: “An té ar leis na nithe seo is uaidh a toirchíodh mé.” Agus dúirt sí: “Féach, le do thoil, cé leis an séala, an corda agus an bata seo?”

25 Und da man sie hervorbrachte, schickte sie zu ihrem Schwiegervater und sprach: Von dem Mann bin ich schwanger, des dies ist. Und sprach: Kennst du auch, wes dieser Ring und diese Schnur und dieser Stab ist?
26 Then Judah said openly that they were his, and said, She is more upright than I am, for I did not give her to Shelah my son. And he had no more connection with her.
26 Juda les reconnut, et dit: Elle est moins coupable que moi, puisque je ne l'ai pas donnée à Schéla, mon fils. Et il ne la connut plus.
26 D'aithin Iúdá iad agus a dúirt: “Tá sise fíréanta seachas mar atáimse; mar nár thug mé í do mo mhac Séalá mar chéile is ea a tharla sé seo.” Agus níor luigh sé léi níos mó.

28 And while she was in the act of giving birth, one of them put out his hand; and the woman who was with her put a red thread round his hand, saying, This one came out first.
28 Et pendant l'accouchement il y en eut un qui présenta la main; la sage-femme la prit, et y attacha un fil cramoisi, en disant: Celui-ci sort le premier.
28 Nuair a bhí sí ina luí seoil chuir ceann acu a lámh amach, rug an bhean ghlún ar an láimh agus chas snáithín craorag uirthi á rá: “É seo is túisce a tháinig amach.”
28 Y sucedió, cuando paría, que sacó la mano el uno, y la partera tomó y ató á su mano un hilo de grana, diciendo: Este salió primero.

29 But then he took his hand back again, and his brother came first to birth: and the woman said, What an opening you have made for yourself! So he was named Perez.
29 Mais il retira la main, et son frère sortit. Alors la sage-femme dit: Quelle brèche tu as faite! Et elle lui donna le nom de Pérets.

30 And then his brother came out, with the red thread round his hand, and he was named Zerah.
