1 And on his way Jacob came face to face with the angels of God.
1 Jacob poursuivit son chemin; et des anges de Dieu le rencontrèrent.

1 Y Jacob se fué su camino, y saliéronle al encuentro ángeles de Dios.
1 Jakob aber zog seinen Weg; und es begegneten ihm die Engel Gottes.
2 And when he saw them he said, This is the army of God: so he gave that place the name of Mahanaim.
2 En les voyant, Jacob dit: C'est le camp de Dieu! Et il donna à ce lieu le nom de Mahanaïm.
2 agus ar a bhfeiceáil do Iacób dúirt sé: “Seo é campa Dé!” agus thug sé Machanáim mar ainm ar an áit.
2 Y dijo Jacob cuando los vió: El campo de Dios es este: y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Mahanaim.
2 Und da er sie sah, sprach er: Es sind Gottes Heere; und hieß die Stätte Mahanaim.
3 Now Jacob sent servants before him to Esau, his brother, in the land of Seir, the country of Edom;
3 Jacob envoya devant lui des messagers à Ésaü, son frère, au pays de Séir, dans le territoire d'Édom.
3 Agus sheol Iacób teachtairí roimhe chun a dhearthár Éasau i dtír Shaeír i gcríocha Eadóm,
3 Y envió Jacob mensajeros delante de sí á Esaú su hermano, á la tierra de Seir, campo de Edom.
3 Jakob aber schickte Boten vor sich her zu seinem Bruder Esau ins Land Seir, in die Gegend Edoms,
4 And he gave them orders to say these words to Esau: Your servant Jacob says, Till now I have been living with Laban:
4 Il leur donna cet ordre: Voici ce que vous direz à mon seigneur Ésaü: Ainsi parle ton serviteur Jacob: J'ai séjourné chez Laban, et j'y suis resté jusqu'à présent;
4 á ordú dóibh: “Seo mar a déarfaidh sibh le mo mháistir Éasau: ‘Seo mar a deir Iacób: D'fhan mé ar deoraíocht go dtí seo le Lábán,
4 Y mandóles diciendo: Así diréis á mí señor Esaú: Así dice tu siervo Jacob: Con Labán he morado, y detenídome hasta ahora;
4 und befahl ihnen und sprach: Also sagt meinem Herrn Esau: Dein Knecht Jakob läßt dir sagen: Ich bin bis daher bei Laban lange außen gewesen
5 And I have oxen and asses and flocks and men-servants and women-servants: and I have sent to give my lord news of these things so that I may have grace in his eyes.
5 j'ai des boeufs, des ânes, des brebis, des serviteurs et des servantes, et j'envoie l'annoncer à mon seigneur, pour trouver grâce à tes yeux.
5 agus tá seilbh faighte agam ar eallach agus asail agus tréada, agus ar dhaoir agus daoirseacha. Tá scéala á chur agam ina thaobh seo go dtí mo mháistir le súil go bhfaighinn fabhar i do radharc.’ ”
5 Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
5 und habe Rinder und Esel, Schafe, Knechte und Mägde; und habe ausgesandt, dir, meinem Herrn, anzusagen, daß ich Gnade vor deinen Augen fände.
6 When the servants came back they said, We have seen your brother Esau and he is coming out to you, and four hundred men with him.
6 Les messagers revinrent auprès de Jacob, en disant: Nous sommes allés vers ton frère Ésaü; et il marche à ta rencontre, avec quatre cents hommes.
6 D'fhill na teachtairí ar Iacób á rá: “Chuamar go dtí do dheartháir Éasau, agus tá sé ar an mbealach chugat cheana féin agus ceithre chéad fear leis.”
6 Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también vino á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
6 Die Boten kamen wieder zu Jakob und sprachen: Wir kamen zu deinem Bruder Esau; und er zieht dir auch entgegen mit vierhundert Mann.
7 Then Jacob was in great fear and trouble of mind: and he put all the people and the flocks and the herds and the camels into two groups;
7 Jacob fut très effrayé, et saisi d'angoisse. Il partagea en deux camps les gens qui étaient avec lui, les brebis, les boeufs et les chameaux;
7 Bhuail eagla agus corrabhuais mhór Iacób agus roinn sé an mhuintir a bhí fairis agus a thréada agus a tháinte agus a chamaill ina dhá mbaicle
7 Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas y las vacas y los camellos, en dos cuadrillas;
7 Da fürchtete sich Jakob sehr, und ihm ward bange; und teilte das Volk, das bei ihm war, und die Schafe und die Rinder und die Kamele in zwei Heere
8 And said, If Esau, meeting one group, makes an attack on them, the others will get away safely.
8 et il dit: Si Ésaü vient contre l'un des camps et le bat, le camp qui restera pourra se sauver.
8 á rá: “Má thagann Éasau ar bhaicle acu agus iad a scrios, tiocfaidh an bhaicle eile, a fhágfar, slán.”
8 Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
8 und sprach: So Esau kommt auf das eine Heer und schlägt es, so wird das übrige entrinnen.
9 Then Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, the God of my father Isaac, the Lord who said to me, Go back to your country and your family and I will be good to you:
9 Jacob dit: Dieu de mon père Abraham, Dieu de mon père Isaac, Éternel, qui m'as dit: Retourne dans ton pays et dans ton lieu de naissance, et je te ferai du bien!
9 Dúirt Iacób: “A Dhia m'athar Abrahám, agus a Dhia m'athar Íosác, a Thiarna a dúirt liom: ‘Fill ar do thír féin agus ar do ghaolta, agus cuirfidh mé conách ort,’
9 Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien.
9 Weiter sprach Jakob: Gott meines Vaters Abraham und Gott meines Vaters Isaak, HERR, der du zu mir gesagt hast: Zieh wieder in dein Land und zu deiner Freundschaft, ich will dir wohltun!
10 I am less than nothing in comparison with all your mercies and your faith to me your servant; for with only my stick in my hand I went across Jordan, and now I have become two armies.
10 Je suis trop petit pour toutes les grâces et pour toute la fidélité dont tu as usé envers ton serviteur; car j'ai passé ce Jourdain avec mon bâton, et maintenant je forme deux camps.
10 ní fiú mé aon phioc den chineáltas buan ná den dílseacht a thaispeáin tú do do shearbhónta. Óir ní raibh agamsa ach mo bhata nuair a ghabh mé thar an Iordáin anseo, agus anois is líon dhá bhaicle mé.
10 Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
10 ich bin zu gering aller Barmherzigkeit und aller Treue, die du an deinem Knechte getan hast; denn ich hatte nicht mehr als diesen Stab, da ich über den Jordan ging, und nun bin ich zwei Heere geworden.
11 Be my saviour from the hand of Esau, my brother: for my fear is that he will make an attack on me, putting to death mother and child.
11 Délivre-moi, je te prie, de la main de mon frère, de la main d'Ésaü! car je crains qu'il ne vienne, et qu'il ne me frappe, avec la mère et les enfants.
11 Saor mé, impím ort, ó láimh mo dhearthár, ó láimh Éasau, mar is eagal liom é; is baol go n‑ionsóidh sé sinn agus sinn go léir a dhíothú, na leanaí agus a máithreacha chomh maith.
11 Líbrame ahora de la mano de mi hermano, de la mano de Esaú, porque le temo; no venga quizá, y me hiera la madre con los hijos.
11 Errette mich von der Hand meines Bruders, von der Hand Esaus; denn ich fürchte mich vor ihm, daß er nicht komme und schlage mich, die Mütter samt den Kindern.
12 And you said, Truly, I will be good to you, and make your seed like the sand of the sea which may not be numbered.
12 Et toi, tu as dit: Je te ferai du bien, et je rendrai ta postérité comme le sable de la mer, si abondant qu'on ne saurait le compter.
12 Gheall tú féin dom: ‘Cuirfidh mé bail ort agus déanfaidh mé do shliocht chomh líonmhar le gaineamh na trá nach féidir a áireamh ar a líonmhaire.’ ”
12 Y tú has dicho: Yo te haré bien, y pondré tu simiente como la arena del mar, que no se puede contar por la multitud.
12 Du hast gesagt ich will dir wohltun und deinen Samen machen wie den Sand am Meer, den man nicht zählen kann vor der Menge.
13 Then he put up his tent there for the night; and from among his goods he took, as an offering for his brother Esau,
13 C'est dans ce lieu-là que Jacob passa la nuit. Il prit de ce qu'il avait sous la main, pour faire un présent à Ésaü, son frère:
13 Ansin d'fhan Iacób thar oíche san áit sin agus roghnaigh sé bronntanas dá dheartháir as a raibh aige -
13 Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú.
13 Und er blieb die Nacht da und nahm von dem, das er vor Handen hatte, ein Geschenk für seinen Bruder Esau:
14 Two hundred she-goats and twenty he-goats, two hundred females and twenty males from the sheep,
14 deux cents chèvres et vingt boucs, deux cents brebis et vingt béliers,
14 dhá chéad minseach agus fiche pocán, dhá chéad caora agus fiche reithe,
14 Doscientas cabras y veinte machos de cabrío, doscientas ovejas y veinte carneros,
14 zweihundert Ziegen, zwanzig Böcke, zweihundert Schafe, zwanzig Widder
15 Thirty camels with their young ones, forty cows, ten oxen, twenty asses, and ten young asses.
15 trente femelles de chameaux avec leurs petits qu'elles allaitaient, quarante vaches et dix taureaux, vingt ânesses et dix ânes.

15 Treinta camellas paridas, con sus hijos, cuarenta vacas y diez novillos, veinte asnas y diez borricos.
15 und dreißig säugende Kamele mit ihren Füllen, vierzig Kühe und zehn Farren, zwanzig Eselinnen mit zehn Füllen,
16 These he gave to his servants, every herd by itself, and he said to his servants, Go on before me, and let there be a space between one herd and another.
16 Il les remit à ses serviteurs, troupeau par troupeau séparément, et il dit à ses serviteurs: Passez devant moi, et mettez un intervalle entre chaque troupeau.
16 Chuir sé a shearbhóntaí ina bhfeighil, gach tréad leis féin, agus dúirt sé lena shearbhóntaí: “Gabhaigí ar aghaidh romham agus fágaigí slí idir gach tréad agus an ceann ina dhiaidh.”
16 Y entrególo en mano de sus siervos, cada manada de por sí; y dijo á sus siervos: Pasad delante de mí, y poned espacio entre manada y manada.
16 und tat sie unter die Hand seiner Knechte, je eine Herde besonders, und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet vor mir hin und lasset Raum zwischen einer Herde nach der andern;
17 And he gave orders to the first, saying, When my brother Esau comes to you and says, Whose servant are you, and where are you going, and whose are these herds?
17 Il donna cet ordre au premier: Quand Ésaü, mon frère, te rencontrera, et te demandera: A qui es-tu? où vas-tu? et à qui appartient ce troupeau devant toi?
17 Thug sé ordú don chéad duine: “Nuair a bhuailfidh mo dheartháir Éasau leat agus go bhfiafróidh sé: ‘Cé leis tú? Cá bhfuil do thriall? Cé leis an táin seo romhat?’
17 Y mandó al primero, diciendo: Si Esaú mi hermano te encontrare, y te preguntare, diciendo ¿De quién eres? ¿y adónde vas? ¿y para quién es esto que llevas delante de ti?
17 und gebot dem ersten und sprach: Wenn dir mein Bruder Esau begegnet und dich fragt: Wem gehörst du an, und wo willst du hin, und wes ist's, was du vor dir treibst?
18 Then say to him, These are your servant Jacob's; they are an offering for my lord, for Esau; and he himself is coming after us.
18 tu répondras: A ton serviteur Jacob; c'est un présent envoyé à mon seigneur Ésaü; et voici, il vient lui-même derrière nous.
18 is é freagra a thabharfaidh tú: ‘Le do shearbhónta Iacób. Is bronntanas iad seo a seoladh chun mo thiarna Éasau. Tá Iacób féin ag teacht inár ndiaidh.’ ”
18 Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.
18 sollst du sagen: Es gehört deinem Knechte Jakob zu, der sendet Geschenk seinem Herrn Esau und zieht hinter uns her.
19 And he gave the same orders to the second and the third and to all those who were with the herds, saying, This is what you are to say to Esau when you see him;
19 Il donna le même ordre au second, au troisième, et à tous ceux qui suivaient les troupeaux: C'est ainsi que vous parlerez à mon seigneur Ésaü, quand vous le rencontrerez.
19 Thug sé an t‑ordú céanna don dara duine agus don tríú agus do chách a bhí i ndiaidh na dtréad: “Sin é atá le rá agaibh nuair a chasfar Éasau oraibh,” ar sé.
19 Y mandó también al segundo, y al tercero, y á todos los que iban tras aquellas manadas, diciendo: Conforme á esto hablaréis á Esaú, cuando le hallareis.
19 Also gebot er auch dem andern und dem dritten und allen, die den Herden nachgingen, und sprach: Wie ich euch gesagt habe, so sagt zu Esau, wenn ihr ihm begegnet;
20 And you are to say further, Jacob, your servant, is coming after us. For he said to himself, I will take away his wrath by the offering which I have sent on, and then I will come before him: it may be that I will have grace in his eyes.
20 Vous direz: Voici, ton serviteur Jacob vient aussi derrière nous. Car il se disait: Je l'apaiserai par ce présent qui va devant moi; ensuite je le verrai en face, et peut-être m'accueillera-t-il favorablement.
20 “Agus abraigí: ‘Tá do shearbhónta Iacób féin ag teacht inár ndiaidh chomh maith.’ ” Óir a dúirt sé leis féin: “Déanfaidh mé muintearas leis trí bhronntanas a chur chuige roimh ré; nuair a bhuailfidh mé leis béal ar bhéal, b'fhéidir go nglacfaidh sé liom le fabhar.”
20 Y diréis también: He aquí tu siervo Jacob viene tras nosotros. Porque dijo: Apaciguaré su ira con el presente que va delante de mí, y después veré su rostro: quizá le seré acepto.
20 und sagt ja auch: Siehe, dein Knecht Jakob ist hinter uns. Denn er gedachte: Ich will ihn versöhnen mit dem Geschenk, das vor mir her geht; darnach will ich ihn sehen, vielleicht wird er mich annehmen.
21 So the servants with the offerings went on in front, and he himself took his rest that night in the tents with his people.
21 Le présent passa devant lui; et il resta cette nuit-là dans le camp.

21 Y pasó el presente delante de él; y él durmió aquella noche en el campamento.

22 And in the night he got up, and taking with him his two wives and the two servant-women and his eleven children, he went over the river Jabbok.
22 Il se leva la même nuit, prit ses deux femmes, ses deux servantes, et ses onze enfants, et passa le gué de Jabbok.
22 D'éirigh Iacób an oíche sin féin agus thug leis a bheirt bhan, a bheirt ionailt, a leanbh is deichniúr agus ghabh thar áth an Iaboc.
22 Y levantóse aquella noche, y tomó sus dos mujeres, y sus dos siervas, y sus once hijos, y pasó el vado de Jaboc.
22 und stand auf in der Nacht und nahm seine zwei Weiber und die zwei Mägde und seine elf Kinder und zog an die Furt des Jabbok,
23 He took them and sent them over the stream with all he had.
23 Il les prit, leur fit passer le torrent, et le fit passer à tout ce qui lui appartenait.

23 Tomólos pues, y pasólos el arroyo, é hizo pasar lo que tenía.

24 Then Jacob was by himself; and a man was fighting with him till dawn.
24 Jacob demeura seul. Alors un homme lutta avec lui jusqu'au lever de l'aurore.

24 Y quedóse Jacob solo, y luchó con él un varón hasta que rayaba el alba.
24 und blieb allein. Da rang ein Mann mit ihm, bis die Morgenröte anbrach.
25 But when the man saw that he was not able to overcome Jacob, he gave him a blow in the hollow part of his leg, so that his leg was damaged.
25 Voyant qu'il ne pouvait le vaincre, cet homme le frappa à l'emboîture de la hanche; et l'emboîture de la hanche de Jacob se démit pendant qu'il luttait avec lui.
25 Nuair a chonaic an fear go raibh ag dul de é a chloí, bhuail sé buille ar Iacób i log a chromáin agus cuireadh cromán Iacób as alt san iomrascáil leis.
25 Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.
25 Und da er sah, daß er ihn nicht übermochte, rührte er das Gelenk seiner Hüfte an; und das Gelenk der Hüfte Jakobs ward über dem Ringen mit ihm verrenkt.
26 And he said to him, Let me go now, for the dawn is near. But Jacob said, I will not let you go till you have given me your blessing.
26 Il dit: Laisse-moi aller, car l'aurore se lève. Et Jacob répondit: Je ne te laisserai point aller, que tu ne m'aies béni.
26 “Scaoil liom,” ar sé, “mar tá an lá ag breacadh.” “Ní scaoilfidh mé,” arsa Iacób á fhreagairt, “mura gcuirfidh tú do bheannacht orm.”
26 Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.
26 Und er sprach: Laß mich gehen, denn die Morgenröte bricht an. Aber er antwortete: Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn.
27 Then he said, What is your name? And he said, Jacob.
27 Il lui dit: Quel est ton nom? Et il répondit: Jacob.
27 D'fhiafraigh sé ansin: “Cad is ainm duit?” “Iacób,” ar sé.
27 Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
27 Er sprach: Wie heißt du? Er antwortete: Jakob.
28 And he said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel: for in your fight with God and with men you have overcome.
28 Il dit encore: ton nom ne sera plus Jacob, mais tu seras appelé Israël; car tu as lutté avec Dieu et avec des hommes, et tu as été vainqueur.
28 “Ní Iacób a bheidh ort feasta,” ar sé, “ach Iosrael, óir mar a bhí tú tréan in aghaidh Dé, beidh an lámh láidir agat ar dhaoine.”
28 Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
28 Er sprach: Du sollst nicht mehr Jakob heißen, sondern Israel; denn du hast mit Gott und mit Menschen gekämpft und bist obgelegen.
29 Then Jacob said, What is your name? And he said, What is my name to you? Then he gave him a blessing.
29 Jacob l'interrogea, en disant: Fais-moi je te prie, connaître ton nom. Il répondit: Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom? Et il le bénit là.
29 Chuir Iacób ceist air ansin: “Inis dom, le do thoil, cad is ainm duit.” Ach dúirt seisean: “Cén fáth m'ainm a fhiafraí díom?” Agus thug sé a bheannacht dó ansin.
29 Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.
29 Und Jakob fragte ihn und sprach: Sage doch, wie heißt du? Er aber sprach: Warum fragst du, wie ich heiße? Und er segnete ihn daselbst.
30 And Jacob gave that place the name of Peniel, saying, I have seen God face to face, and still I am living.
30 Jacob appela ce lieu du nom de Peniel: car, dit-il, j'ai vu Dieu face à face, et mon âme a été sauvée.
30 Thug Iacób dá bhrí sin Panúéil ar an áit, “mar,” ar sé, “chonaic mé Dia gnúis le gnúis agus mairim beo.”
30 Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.
30 Und Jakob hieß die Stätte Pniel; denn ich habe Gott von Angesicht gesehen, und meine Seele ist genesen.
31 And while he was going past Peniel, the sun came up. And he went with unequal steps because of his damaged leg.
31 Le soleil se levait, lorsqu'il passa Peniel. Jacob boitait de la hanche.
31 D'éirigh an ghrian air agus é ag dul thar Panúéil agus coiscéim bhacaí ann de bharr a chromáin.
31 Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
31 Und als er an Pniel vorüberkam, ging ihm die Sonne auf; und er hinkte an seiner Hüfte.
32 For this reason the children of Israel, even today, never take that muscle in the hollow of the leg as food, because the hollow of Jacob's leg was touched.
32 C'est pourquoi jusqu'à ce jour, les enfants d'Israël ne mangent point le tendon qui est à l'emboîture de la hanche; car Dieu frappa Jacob à l'emboîture de la hanche, au tendon.
