Genesis 18

1 And at nightfall the two angels came to Sodom; and Lot was seated at the way into the town: and when he saw them he got up and came before them, falling down on his face to the earth.

1 Shroich an dá aingeal Sodom an tráthnóna sin, agus bhí Lót ina shuí ag geata Shodom. Nuair a chonaic Lót iad, d'éirigh sé chun bualadh leo agus shléacht go talamh rompu.

1 Llegaron, pues, los dos ángeles á Sodoma á la caída de la tarde: y Lot estaba sentado á la puerta de Sodoma. Y viéndolos Lot, levantóse á recibirlos, é inclinóse hacia el suelo;

2 And he said, My masters, come now into your servant's house and take your rest there for the night, and let your feet be washed; and early in the morning you may go on your way. And they said, Not so, but we will take our night's rest in the street.

2 “A mhaithe,” ar sé, “iarraim oraibh teacht i leataobh go teach bhur searbhónta, agus an oíche a chaitheamh ann, agus bhur gcosa a ionladh. Ar maidin ansin ní miste daoibh éirí go moch agus cur chun bóthair arís.” “Ní dhéanfaimid,” ar siadsan, “ach an oíche a chaitheamh ar an tsráid.”

3 But he made his request more strongly, so they went with him into his house; and he got food ready for them, and made unleavened bread, of which they took.

3 Ach d'áitigh sé go dian orthu agus chasadar abhaile leis agus chuadar isteach ina theach.

4 But before they had gone to bed, the men of the town, all the men of Sodom, came round the house, young and old, from every part of the town;

4 Ach sula ndeachadar a luí, tháinig timpeall an tí fir na cathrach go léir idir óg agus aosta i Sodom, an pobal go léir gan easnamh fir.

4 Y antes que se acostasen, cercaron la casa los hombres de la ciudad, los varones de Sodoma, todo el pueblo junto, desde el más joven hasta el más viejo;

5 And crying out to Lot, they said, Where are the men who came to your house this night? Send them out to us, so that we may take our pleasure with them.

5 Agus ghlaodar ar Lót á rá: “Cá bhfuil na fir a tháinig chugat anocht? Seol amach chugainn iad chun go mbainfimis sásamh astu.”

6 And Lot went out to them in the doorway, shutting the door after him.

6 Chuaigh Lót amach sa doras chucu, agus dhún an doras ina dhiaidh,

7 And he said, My brothers, do not this evil.

7 agus dúirt: “A bhráithre, impím oraibh gan aon ní chomh holc sin a dhéanamh.

7 Y dijo: Os ruego, hermanos míos, que no hagáis tal maldad.

8 See now, I have two unmarried daughters; I will send them out to you so that you may do to them whatever seems good to you: only do nothing to these men, for this is why they have come under the shade of my roof.

Ligigí dom iad a thabhairt chugaibh amach agus déanaigí leo mar is mian libh.

9 And they said, Give way there. This one man, they said, came here from a strange country, and will he now be our judge? now we will do worse to you than to them; and pushing violently against Lot, they came near to get the door broken in.

9 Ils dirent: Retire-toi!

9 “Druid siar!” ar siadsan leis agus leanadar orthu á rá: “Níl anseo ach duine iasachta thar tír isteach, agus b'áil leis a bheith ina bhreitheamh! Is measa an íde a thabharfaimid ortsa anois na orthusan!” Agus ansin bhrúdar go dian ar Lót agus dhruid siad i gcóngar an dorais chun é a bhriseadh.

10 But the men put out their hands and took Lot into the house to them, shutting the door again.

10 Ach shín an bheirt a lámha amach agus tharraing siad Lót chucu isteach, agus dhún an doras.

11 But the men who were outside the door they made blind, all of them, small and great, so that they were tired out with looking for the door.

11 Agus an mhuintir a bhí ag an doras, bhaineadar radharc na súl díobh go léir idir óg agus aosta i dtreo gur theip orthu an doras a aimsiú.

12 Then the men said to Lot, Are there any others of your family here? sons-in-law or sons or daughters, take them all out of this place;

12 Agus dúirt na fir le Lót: “An bhfuil aon duine eile anseo agat? Do chleamhnaithe, do mhic, d'iníonacha, agus do dhaoine muinteartha go léir sa chathair, beir leat ón áit iad.

13 For we are about to send destruction on this place, because a great outcry against them has come to the ears of the Lord; and the Lord has sent us to put an end to the town.

13 Óir táimid ar tí an áit seo a scrios mar is éachtach é an liú atá éirithe in aghaidh a mhuintire agus shroich sé i láthair an Tiarna, agus chuir an Tiarna sinn chun é a scrios.”

14 And Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were married to his daughters, Come, let us go out of this place, for the Lord is about to send destruction on the town. But his sons-in-law did not take him seriously.

14 Amach le Lót dá bhrí sin agus dúirt lena chleamhnaithe a bhí chun a iníonacha a phósadh: “Téanam,” ar sé, “fágaimis an áit seo mar tá an Tiarna ar tí an chathair seo a scrios.” Ach mheas a chleamhnaithe gur ag magadh a bhí sé.

15 And when morning came, the angels did all in their power to make Lot go, saying, Get up quickly and take your wife and your two daughters who are here, and go, for fear that you come to destruction in the punishment of the town.

15 Le breacadh an lae bhí na haingil ag brostú Lót agus á rá: “Éirigh, beir leat do bhean agus do bheirt iníon anseo, nó bascfar thú nuair a imreofar pionós ar an gcathair seo.”

16 But while he was waiting, the men took him and his wife and his daughters by the hand, for the Lord had mercy on them, and put them outside the town.

16 Ach bhí sé ag déanamh moille agus rug na fir ar láimh air féin agus ar a bhean agus ar a bheirt iníon mar go raibh trua ag an Tiarna dó.

17 And when they had put them out, he said, Go for your life, without looking back or waiting in the lowland; go quickly to the mountain or you will come to destruction.

Ná féach i do dhiaidh agus ná stad in aon áit sa mhachaire. Teith chun na gcnoc le heagla do bhasctha.”

18 And Lot said to them, Not so, O my Lord;

18 Lot leur dit: Oh! non, Seigneur!

18 “Uch, ná habraigí é sin, a fhlatha,” arsa Lót leo.

18 Y Lot les dijo: No, yo os ruego, señores míos;

19 See now, your servant has had grace in your eyes and great is your mercy in keeping my life from destruction, but I am not able to get as far as the mountain before evil overtakes me and death;

19 “Féach, fuair do shearbhónta fabhar i do láthair agus thaispeáin tú trócaire mhór dom nuair a shaor tú on mbás mé. Ach ní fhéadfainn teitheadh chun na gcnoc le heagla go mbéarfadh an anachain orm agus go gcaillfí mé.

19 He aquí ahora ha hallado tu siervo gracia en tus ojos, y has engrandecido tu misericordia que has hecho conmigo dándome la vida; mas yo no podré escapar al monte, no sea caso que me alcance el mal y muera.

20 This town, now, is near, and it is a little one: O, let me go there (is it not a little one?) so that my life may be safe.

20 Féach anois an chathair sin thall, tá sí cóngarach go leor chun teitheadh chúici agus níl aon toirt inti.

21 And he said, See, I have given you your request in this one thing more: I will not send destruction on this town.

21 Dúirt sé leis: “Féach, deonaím an fabhar seo duit chomh maith, nach scriosfaidh mé an chathair a luaigh tú.

21 Y le respondió: He aquí he recibido también tu súplica sobre esto, y no destruiré la ciudad de que has hablado.

22 Go there quickly, for I am not able to do anything till you have come there. For this reason, the town was named Zoar.

22 Brostaigh ort! Teith inti isteach mar nach dtig liom aon ní a dhéanamh go mbainfir amach an chathair sin.” Uime sin a tugadh Zoar [Beag] mar ainm ar an gcathair.

23 The sun was up when Lot came to Zoar.

23 Bhí an ghrian éirithe de dhroim talún nuair a ghabh Lót isteach i Zoar.

24 Then the Lord sent fire and flaming smoke raining down from heaven on Sodom and Gomorrah.

24 Ansin d'fhear an Tiarna ruibh agus tine anuas ar Shodom agus ar Ghomorá ón Tiarna.

24 Entonces llovió Jehová sobre Sodoma y sobre Gomorra azufre y fuego de parte de Jehová desde los cielos;

25 And he sent destruction on those towns, with all the lowland and all the people of those towns and every green thing in the land.

25 Dhíothaigh sé na cathracha sin, agus an gleann go léir, agus lucht na gcathracha go léir, agus a raibh ag fás ar an talamh.

26 But Lot's wife, looking back, became a pillar of salt.

27 And Abraham got up early in the morning and went to the place where he had been talking with the Lord:

27 Agus chuaigh Abrahám go moch ar maidin chun na háite inar sheas sé i láthair an Tiarna.

28 And looking in the direction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the lowland, he saw the smoke of the land going up like the smoke of an oven.

28 D'fhéach sé uaidh síos i dtreo Shodom agus Gomorá agus an ghleanna mar a rith sé, agus chonaic sé an deatach ag éirí on talamh, mar dheatach ó fhoirnéis.

29 So it came about that when God sent destruction on the towns of the lowland, he kept his word to Abraham, and sent Lot safely away when he put an end to the towns where he was living.

29 Sin mar a bhí nuair a scrios Dia cathracha an ghleanna agus gur chuimhnigh sé ar Abrahám agus gur shaor sé Lót ón díothú nuair a dhíothaigh sé na cathracha mar ar chónaigh Lót.

30 Then Lot went up out of Zoar to the mountain, and was living there with his two daughters, for fear kept him from living in Zoar: and he and his daughters made their living-place in a hole in the rock.

30 D'imigh Lót amach as Zoar agus chuir sé faoi sna cnoic fara a bheirt iníon mar bhí eagla air fanacht i Zoar. Mhair sé in uaimh é féin agus a bheirt iníon.

31 And the older daughter said to her sister, Our father is old, and there is no man to be a husband to us in the natural way:

31 Agus dúirt an té ba shine leis an té a ba óige: “Tá ár n‑athair anonn san aois, agus níl fear sa dúiche chun céileachas a dhéanamh linn mar a dhéantar ar fud an domhain mhóir.

31 Da sprach die ältere zu der jüngeren: Unser Vater ist alt, und ist kein Mann mehr auf Erden der zu uns eingehen möge nach aller Welt Weise;

32 Come, let us give our father much wine, and we will go into his bed, so that we may have offspring by our father,

33 And that night they made their father take much wine; and the older daughter went into his bed; and he had no knowledge of when she went in or when she went away.

34 And on the day after, the older daughter said to the younger, Last night I was with my father; let us make him take much wine this night again, and do you go to him, so that we may have offspring by our father.

34 Lá arna mhárach dúirt an té ba shine leis an té a ba óige: “Féach, luigh mé aréir le d'athair; cuirimis ar meisce le fíon arís anocht é; ansin téighse isteach chuige agus luigh leis. Ar an tslí sin, beidh sliocht orainn ónár n‑athair.”

35 And that night again they made their father take much wine; and the younger daughter went into his bed; and he had no knowledge of when she went in or when she went away.

35 Chuireadar an t‑athair ar meisce le fíon arís an oíche sin, más ea, agus d'éirigh an té a ba óige agus isteach léi agus luigh leis cé nár bhraith sé í chuige ná uaidh.

36 And so the two daughters of Lot were with child by their father.

36 Ghabh beirt iníon Lót clann óna n‑athair ar an gcuma sin.

36 Also wurden beide Töchter Lots schwanger von ihrem Vater.

37 And the older daughter had a son, and she gave him the name Moab: he is the father of the Moabites to this day.

37 Rug an té ba shine mac ar a dtug sí Móáb; agus eisean sinsear Móábach an lae inniu.

38 And the younger had a son and gave him the name Ben-ammi: from him come the children of Ammon to this day.

38 Agus rug an té ab óige mac ar dtug sí Bein Amaí; agus eisean sinsear Beiné Amón an lae inniu.
